J.D. Vance puzzled about 'weird' attacks: 'I'm a pretty normal guy'

J.D. Vance insisted he's just a "normal guy" after "weird" became the buzzword used by multiple supporters of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris to describe him.

Minnesota's Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, who's reportedly on the shortlist to become Kamala Harris' running mate, referred to the GOP ticket as "just weird" in an interview last week— and it's repeated many times since. But Vance insisted to the right-wing Nelk Boys podcast that he doesn't understand why the word clings to him.

"I certainly know the Kamala campaign wants to call me weird," Vance said.

The host pressed Vance to explain why that particular word was being used to define him, and the GOP vice presidential nominee was hard-pressed to say.

"Yeah, I mean, I don't know if it's something they, like, focus-grouped and decided to push on us," Vance said. "Like, I'm a pretty normal guy, I've got a wife and kids and I like to hang out and, you know, watch football."

The Harris campaign described Trump as "old and weird" after Walz's remarks went viral on social media, and Democrats have said that Vance's views on abortion, "childless cat ladies" and other topics are also weird.

"I care about this stuff because I care about the country," Vance said. "My attitude on this is, my best guess — this is just a total guess — is that her campaign is run by, like, a lot of 24-year-old social media interns who maybe were bullied at school, and so now they decided that they're going to do that same thing.

"They're going to take that, like, attitude of the middle school social scene and try to run a campaign on it. I just don't think most Americans buy it or care, but they're certainly pushing it. I'm certainly aware of it."
