Kamala Harris Secures Democratic Presidential Nominee Ahead of National Convention

Vice President Kamala Harris has officially received the support necessary to secure the Democratic nomination for the presidential election, setting her up to compete with Republican nominee Donald Trump in November and creating even more history.

On Thursday (August 1), delegates for the Democratic Party began a virtual voting process to select the official nominee ahead of the Democratic National Convention later this month.

The delegates had four days to make their decision, voting either for Kamala or “present” since there were no other competitors. However, on Friday, DNC Chair Jamie Harrison announced that Kamala had secured a majority of the votes.

According to reporting by People, Kamala is expected to formally accept the nomination on Monday (August 5) once the voting period officially closes.

This is a historic moment in the midst of a historic campaign.

The current vice president became the frontrunner for the nomination after President Joe Biden dropped out of the election and endorsed her in late July.

As the nominee, she is the first Black woman and first Asian American candidate to run for president from one of the main political parties. She was already the first female to become vice president!

The DNC will begin in Chicago, Illinois on August 19 and runs through August 22.

The news comes a few days after Donald questioned her race during an interview.
