Two 'dangerous sexual predators' in Marion County sent to prison within a week

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Within one week, two "dangerous sexual predators" were sentenced to more than 60 total years in prison for abusing children in Marion County, the district attorney’s office announced Friday.

The first case convicted 41-year-old Timothy J. Shewell of five separate incidents of sex abuse against two children over several years. One victim was a teenager at the time of the abuse, and the second was younger than 10 years old.

“Even after the verdict, Shewell took no accountability and asked the Court to sentence him to the minimum sentence, arguing he is a good person who has never hurt anyone,” the district attorney’s office said. 

Shewell will spend 25 years in prison, which is more than 18 years longer than the minimum sentence for these crimes. He will not be eligible for early release and will need to serve an additional 45 months of post-prison supervision.

The second case involves a Salem man who will spend more than 37 years in prison with no early release for sexually abusing a girl when she was as young as seven years old, according to the DA’s office.

Randy Salas is guilty of five counts of first-degree sex abuse and one count of first-degree sodomy, each accounting for separate incidents that targeted the girl over the course of three years.

After serving their sentences, both men will need to register as sex offenders.
