Double hitters: Every actor who competed at the Oscars and Emmys in the same year [PHOTOS]

In 1951, “Cyrano de Bergerac” star José Ferrer made history as the first performer to win an Oscar for a role that had already brought him a Tony. What’s more, his successful film acting bid came mere weeks after he received a TV academy notice for playing de Bergerac, thus making him the first person nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy in a single year. Scroll through our photo gallery to find out which other 50 men have since achieved the same feat.

Nineteen members of this club triumphed at the Oscars but came up short at the Emmys while another 10 did the opposite. The only actor who has ever won both awards in a 12-month span is George C. Scott (1971 – Oscar: “Patton”; Emmy: “The Price”), who, as a dual 1962 nominee, also stands with Peter Falk, Laurence Olivier, Jason Robards, Robin Williams, and Mahershala Ali as one of this list’s six multi-year entrants.

This gallery only factors in competitive Oscar, Primetime Emmy, and Daytime Emmy nominations in categories strictly reserved for performers. For consistency, each nomination is listed with its corresponding ceremony date in parentheses.
