Kansas City woman accused of stealing thousands worth of merchandise

Asia Marshall is charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with multiple counts of "stealing, $750 or more" in all three cases.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office filed three separate criminal cases on Wednesday, July 31, against a Kansas City woman.

Asia Marshall was allegedly involved in several retail thefts in 2023.

Marshall is charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with multiple counts of "stealing, $750 or more" in all three cases. They add to a laundry list of charges for the 19-year-old, accused of at least 25 crimes in a seven-month period where she and others are accused of stealing nearly $67,000 worth of store merchandise ranging from fragrances to apparel.

As part of her bond conditions, the court has ordered her "not to enter or have contact with any Nike, Bath and Body Works, or Sephora store, not come within 500 feet of the Country Club Plaza."

Prosecutors say Marshall and other unnamed women began on May 20th, 2023 by stealing more than $6000 worth of flat irons and fragrances from a pair of Northland Ulta Beauty Stores.

Then on May 24, 2023, prosecutors say three female suspects entered a store in Kansas City, grabbed multiple apparel items and left together through the front doors without paying, according to court documents. The loss was reported at $1,400.

On May 27, 2023, a shoplifting was reported at a store in Overland Park by four female suspects, including Marshall. Twenty-five items were reported stolen, totaling $1,407. She's also accused of shoplifting from a Kansas City Nike store the same day.

After being arrested that day in Overland Park, she was set to face a judge in Johnson County July 11, 2023. But instead of appearing in court, court documents show that day she was instead at the Sephora on the Plaza stealing 26 fragrance items valued at $2,183.89.

Crimes picked up in September and October at Victoria Secret Bath and Body Works and a Zona Rosa area Sephora where she's accused of stealing $6,600 dollars worth of items in a single theft.

On Sept. 20, 2023, Marshall allegedly placed numerous items in bags and then left without paying. All told that day, 248 items were reported stolen with a total value of $5,314.60, according to court documents.

On Oct. 14, 2023, Marshall allegedly stole 212 items with a value of $5386.40.

On Nov. 18, 2023, four Black women entered a store, one of them being Marshall according to investigators. The women placed numerous items in bags and then left without paying, 85 items were reported stolen with a value of $2290.75.

After a Platte County alleged assault in November and reported robbery at the Zona Rosa Bath and Body Works in December where an employee was punched, Marshall was arrested in January. She hid under a blanket, telling officers she was 13.

But in March she pleaded to a single count of theft in Clay County, receiving probation and a suspended sentence. Jackson County would file warrants for her arrest the very next day and more in June.

Based on video surveillance, Marshall is believed to be one of the suspects who committed each of the thefts, according to court documents.

In an interview with investigators, Marshall confessed to being a suspect in all four of the thefts. She also admitted to numerous thefts in Overland Park. The stolen items added up to $2,807. The Overland Park thefts happened in May 2023.

Marshall is scheduled for a plea hearing in Platte County on Aug. 8.
