McDonald's is testing a much bigger burger: What we know

The new sandwich, which isn't yet available in the U.S., is nearly double the size of the biggest burger on the core McDonald's menu.

(KTLA) – McDonald's is testing a new, bigger burger in select international markets.

The new burger, known as the Big Arch, is being tested in several international markets, including Canada and Portugal, with hopes of a larger release should the product test well, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said during an earnings call.

The burger consists of two beef patties, three slices of cheese, crispy onions, slivered onions, pickles, lettuce and the chain’s new Big Arch sauce.

“It’s a quintessential McDonald’s burger that satisfies guests' hunger with a twist on our iconic flavors,” according to a news release from McDonald’s Canada.

According to Business Insider, the new burger weighs 14 ounces and clocks in at 1,065 calories, containing 96% of the recommended daily fat intake for the average adult.

By comparison, the Double Quarter Pounder, which weighs 8 ounces and has 760 calories, is currently the biggest burger on McDonald’s core menus in the U.S.

The new burger comes as McDonald’s says customers want bigger burgers rather than premium ones.
