Horse racing tips: Templegate’s NAP looks in pole position to land this Goodwood cracker for in-form trainer

TEMPLEGATE tackles Saturday’s action confident of success.

CAIUS CHORISTER (3.00 Goodwood, nap)

Just ran out of juice when sixth in the Ascot Gold Cup and will be much happier over this much shorter trip. This Golden Horn mare showed her quality by winning a Group 3 contest in France the last time she tackled this distance. She went close a couple of times over two miles before that Royal Ascot effort and this looks an ideal target for in-form David Menuisier.

JEHANGEER (4.10 Goodwood, nb)

He looks ready for this longer trip after a battling win over 6f at Thirsk last time. He powered through the line and goes on any ground. He can cope with a 5lb rise in the weights.

NATIVE WARRIOR (5.20 Goodwood, treble)

He was first home in his group when third overall in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last time. That was a superb effort on handicap debut and the extra furlong holds no fears.

NEWMARKET

MAGIC MILD can do the trick from what looks a lenient opening handicap mark.

Clive Cox’s filly started with a good run in a maiden on the Rowley course in April and scored here comfortably last time when tackling this trip for the first time.

Despite that she starts handicapping from 86 with Clive Cox in good form. She can do the business under Saffie Osborne.

Miss Fascinator got the job done nicely at Ascot last time and is another with more to come in handicaps. She stayed strongly over this distance when taking that race eight days ago.

Griselda made it three handicap wins out of three with four lengths to spare at Thirsk last week. She’s shot up 14lb but likes this trip and can’t be ruled out.

Art Design looks a big threat for William Haggas. She improved for moving up to this distance when second at Thirsk and has a lovely light weight for this handicap debut.

It Ain’t Two wasn’t disgraced at Listed level here in June before a modest last run in the Super Sprint at Newbury.

LMAY can land a deserved win after her belting second in the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot last time.

She kept going there despite being up with a breakneck pace all the way. She has run well in Listed company before and should get the quick ground she likes.

The Gosdens have another good chance with Place Of Safety who won by five lengths in a Kempton maiden last month.

That was just her second run so there should be a lot more to come.

Fairy Glen is another heading here on the back of a Kempton success. The Crisford filly had six lengths in hand when seeing out this trip strongly. This is a fair leap in class but she could well be up to it.

Persist wasn’t beaten far in a French Group 3 last time but can throw her chance away with a slow start.

Ching Shih is hit and miss but she was beaten on the nod for a Pontefract Listed race two starts ago so can’t be written off.

GOODWOOD SAT

1.50

AIMERIC ran a cracker when second at Newmarket last time after a real battle.

He saves his best for this trip on fast ground and seems to be improving even at the age of five.

Al Aasy has always had plenty of ability but doesn’t always show it. This small field will suit but it wouldn’t be a shock if we was outbattled.

Phantom Flight got the better of Al Aasy over 1m2f at Newbury last time but has stamina to prove over this longer distance.

Relentless Voyager has relatively few miles on the clock and won a hot handicap over this trip at Epsom before not getting home at York when upped to 1m6f.

You can’t rule out Lion’s Pride either back over his best trip.

CHARLIE Johnston’s dad Mark used to farm this race and the yard have two good chances in Align The Stars and KNIGHTSWOOD.

The former was pulled out of the Gordon Stakes on Thursday because of fast ground and, despite his class, that has to be a worry again.

Stablemate Knightswood showed real promise over this trip when fourth at Newmarket last time. He was held up for too long before finishing off well.

That looked like an excellent sighter for this race and he won’t be far away.

Fairbanks was the winner of that race at HQ and he’ll go close again despite a 6lb rise in the weights.

Sir Mark Prescott’s aptly named True Legend was beaten on the nod over course and distance in May. He went close again at Ascot last time and has plenty of staying power.

Dancing In Paris is best over this trip and looks a big each-way price.

Free Wind was fourth in this race 12 months ago when she got stuck in the mud. She has been in decent form over 1m4f this season and will be happier in the quicker conditions.

Melo Melo has plenty of smart form in France including when a close second in the Group 1 Vermeille.

She hasn’t quite been up to that level this season and she’ll be a threat if her stamina holds.

Grateful stepped up to this distance for a Group 3 win at Fairyhouse last time and Aidan O’Brien has been in sparkling form all week so she can’t be overlooked.

DARK TROOPER was a cracking second in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last time and should relish this test from just 3lb higher in the weights.

This trip is ideal on fast ground and there’s more to come.

Summerghand is still showing plenty of zip at the age of ten and is a whopping 17lb lower than when winning this race four years ago.

He looks a huge price to make the frame especially if your bookie is paying extra places.

Mr Wagyu is another veteran to watch while Lethal Levi has been a revelation since blinkers went on and he can go close again.

Mission To Moon looks the main threat after his good fourth in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last time.

He coped well with the fast ground there and was a winner over this trip here in May.

Qirat won a hot handicap over course and distance on quick ground in May. He has since run two decent races over a mile but this trip is his favourite.

Arctic Thunder didn’t quite last home in the Britannia having won at Ascot over this distance on comeback. He still looks on a fair mark for Andrew Balding.

Cuban Tiger was a close-up fifth in good company at York latest. Some rain would help as he’s best with a bit of cut in the ground.

Similar comments apply to Ballymount Boy who is a Listed winner over 6f but should see out the extra furlong.

ANGELO BUONARROTI was green when beaten less than three lengths in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot on debut.

He showed lots of promise and has moved across the Channel to join Ralph Beckett since. He likes fast ground and will enjoy this extra furlong.

Stablemate Consolidation improved from debut when second at Doncaster last time and looks the main threat.

Spell Master handled tricky Epsom well enough when second there last time and should be capable of better for Andrew Balding who has won the past two runnings of this race.

Sir Peter Fossick also had his first run at the Derby’s home and looked a nice prospect when a close second. He should take a big step forward for Charlie Johnston.

Desfonado was beaten less than a length at Ascot latest and is back from the same mark. He finished strongly over the mile so this longer trip should be ideal.

Magic Memories has been running with credit in soft ground but he handles quicker conditions too. Staying is no issue and he has solid place claims.

Dutch Decoy was staying on at the end of a mile when third at Newmarket latest. His losing run is adding up but his stamina should be an asset.

Rowayeh was third over a mile at this meeting last year and went well in the Kensington Palace at Royal Ascot.

Ignore her poor effort on the sand at Chelmsford last time out when she didn’t get home over 1m2f.
