Modern White Van man shuns beer and full English fry-ups for muesli and yoga, poll shows

MODERN White Van man tends to be fit and more likely to choose muesli for brekkie over a full English, a poll shows.

The beer-bellied pub-loving, sugar-in-tea macho stereotype is fast disappearing in the rear-view mirror.

Of today’s crop, 58 per cent walk for fitness, 41 per cent visit the gym, 35 per cent do sport and 14 per cent yoga or pilates.

Cooking and baking is their top hobby with 44 per cent doing it, followed by gardening (38 per cent), reading (38 per cent), and arts and crafts (22 per cent).

Muesli, porridge, yoghurt with granola or avocado on toast are preferred to bacon, eggs, sausage and beans and just 23 per cent have sugar their tea.

Eight per cent use soya or oat milk.

One in seven claims to be vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian and just six per cent prefer to spend free time in a pub.

They would rather be with family and friends (48 per cent), watch TV (20 per cent) or take some exercise (11 per cent).

One in four prefer listening to podcasts or audiobooks in their van to the radio, said the poll of 2,000 van drivers by Citroën.

Previous studies revealed one in five use face cream and keep deodorant in their motor and one in ten has lip balm.

Citroën UK boss Greg Taylor said: “It’s clear habits and lifestyles of van drivers in the UK have moved on from the preconceptions of the previous decade.”
