08/02/24: More Storms Tonight, Unsettled Weekend Ahead

The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast by Meteorologists Rob Lindenmuth & Jordan Due

Today was a very warm and humid day to end the work week. Many of us experienced a big drop in temperatures once the showers and storms passed through. Unfortunately, we are keeping this heat and humidity into tonight. Timing out tomorrow, many places are going to stay in the clear from showers and storms that taper off by midnight tonight. There is a slight chance a few of us could see a lingering shower or two in the early hours of the morning before the unsettled pattern repeats tomorrow.

After a bit of a break from the downpours and rain, they are expected to return later tonight. This means that we're holding onto the clouds and scattered showers and storms until around midnight. Tomorrow we are watching two low pressure systems that will bring some dry time tomorrow afternoon before another round of storms makes it's way in our area.

There is a potential tropical cyclone that is coming up the east coast and could be making its way up towards the Mid-Atlantic by next Wednesday. The rest of the track is a little uncertain, it could track more toward the east and fizzle out in the Atlantic or continue the trend up along the Northeast Coast. We could get into some moisture by the end of next week depending on how it intensifies. Florida has hurricane watches and warnings in place in preparation for the system.

Futurecast shows another round of showers and storms to move in later tonight. After midnight we can expect to dry out and stay that way until tomorrow afternoon. There could be a few stray showers that linger into tomorrow morning. The majority of the scattered showers and storms will be similar to today in the late afternoon into the late evening moving more into Sunday.

Futurecast rainfall for the next 24 hours shows that many places south could see just about a half-inch to an inch of rain if you're in the northern Adirondacks or in Bennington County. Some places in the Berkshires and further south in Columbia/Dutchess County have a greater chance of seeing 1.5"-2" of rain with these showers and storms by later tomorrow night.

Temperatures for the next couple of days are looking toasty. As the showers and storms come through on both days, expect these temperatures to drop after the rain passes.

Tonight the threat of rain is greater before midnight. Then we can get into some dry time but we're still holding onto that mugginess into tomorrow. We'll start the day with the sun then continue the stretch of scattered showers and storms later into the evening.

It's not the greatest weekend to get outside but neither day will be a washout. Just expect to see some lightning, and gustier winds and hear some thunder that these storms bring. Monday there could be a shower and/or storm later into the evening lingering into Tuesday which is looking very rainy. Wednesday if we do get into some moisture from the tropical system making its way up the east coast then we could be looking at another wet stretch. But for now, our forecast for the end of the week even into next weekend isn't looking bad at all!
