Josh Shapiro U-Turns Over Old Story He Was Israeli Army Volunteer
A spokesperson for Gov. Josh Shapiro confirmed with the Daily Beast on Friday that he never engaged in military activities despite claiming in a 1993 op-ed for the University of Rochester’s student paper that he volunteered for the Israel Army.
In a 1993 article entitled “Peace Not Possible,” a 20-year-old Shapiro wrote about the Palestine Liberation Organization’s mututal agreement with Israel at the Oslo accords,“Despite my skepticism as a Jew and a past volunteer in the Israeli army, I strongly hope and pray that this ‘peace plan’ will be successful.”
