Suns CEO: Kevin Durant loves being here and we love having Kevin here

Phoenix Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein reiterated the strong union between Kevin Durant and the team when asked about Durant being eligible for a one-year extension of $59.7 million he’d receive for the 2026-27 season. “The most important thing is Kevin loves being here and we love having Kevin here,” Bartelstein said in an interview Wednesday with The Arizona Republic.

On a related note, Kevin Durant will continue coming off the bench (very willingly) for Team USA. And this makes his second-unit bestie, Anthony Edwards, a very happy young man.
“I love that he’s coming off the bench. I get to play with him, so I hope coach keeps bringing him – 12:13 PM

Also on the Team USA front: It seems like the social media experts are convinced that Steve Kerr is doing a terrible job, but I’d probably yield to the perspective shared by some dude named Kevin Durant (who ALWAYS tells his truth about hoops strategy).

The lineup of Anthony Edwards, Kevin Durant, Derrick White, Bam Adebayo and Devin Booker played together last night for 4:25.
In that time:

— USA 67% FGs, South Sudan 20%
— USA 4 steals

I didn’t pick up on it in real time, but Kevin Durant’s messaging about that stacked second unit was almost exactly the same as what he’d argued with fans on this very platform the other day.
“When you can throw that lineup out there, it’s fun. That’s when you don’t have to run – 5:05 AM

Kevin Durant. Bam Adebayo. Anthony Edwards. Jrue Holiday. Derrick White.
“That lineup was incredible,” Durant said after that group dominated against South Sudan.

More on this storyline

Durant’s current four-year contract for $194 million ends in 2025-26 and he will become an unrestricted free agent. When asked if the Suns had offered the extension, Bartelstein declined to get into “that level of specifics.” Durant became eligible to sign the extension on July 12. He would have until Oct. 21 to sign. “We talk all the time,” Bartelstein said about the constant dialogue he and Suns president of basketball operations and general manager, James Jones, have constant dialogue with Durant and Kleiman. -via Arizona Republic / August 3, 2024
“The most important thing is Kevin loves being here and we love having Kevin here,” Bartelstein said in an interview Wednesday with The Arizona Republic. “He’s focused on the Olympics, but we’re always having dialogue. The relationship is what matters the most. The relationship is in a great spot. I talk to (Durant’s agent) Rich Kleiman, who works with Kevin, all the time. Conversations are great not just on extension stuff, but on all things that have been going on.” -via Arizona Republic / August 2, 2024
