Gold medal race at OIympics 2024 is delayed after athletes’ bus gets caught up in Paris traffic jam
TRANSPORT chaos has seen the men’s single sculls gold medal race delayed.
A bus carrying an athlete from the Olympic Village to Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium has got stuck in a huge Paris traffic jam.
The rowing race was scheduled for 9:42am this morning.
But rowing officials confirmed “one athlete” was delayed in getting to the venue, which is around 15 miles east of the centre of Paris.
A statement from Olympics chiefs read: “Due to athlete transport disruption from the Olympic Village, the World Rowing Executive Committee and Paris 2024 have decided to reschedule.
“Other events are not affected by this change.”
A rowing official told SunSport: “All we know is that one athlete has had transport problems.
“We don’t know exactly who it was yet and are trying to figure it out.”
The event has now been delayed until 10:30am.
It will now be the final race of the regatta.
