Austrian media reported that an Afghan man, accused of murdering his wife, was arrested at Berlin Airport while attempting to flee Europe.

According to reports, the 31-year-old man fatally stabbed his 29-year-old wife in Vienna, Austria. Her body was discovered by relatives on Thursday, August 1, in an apartment in Vienna-Middle. The woman had been killed by knife wounds to her neck and chest.

Relatives of the victim told Austrian media outlet Heute, “We came to the apartment last night and requested the police to open the door. Now she is dead, and it is too late.” They mentioned that an argument had occurred between the couple the night before the incident.

The report states that the victim had recently married the suspect and had been living in Austria for the past two months. The suspect had lived in Vienna for 14 years and had arrived in Austria from Afghanistan at the age of 17, recognized as a refugee.

The suspect managed to travel 700 kilometers undetected and arrived in Germany. He was arrested on Thursday while attempting to leave Germany at Berlin Airport.

Investigations into the man’s case are ongoing. German authorities have arranged for his extradition to Austria.
