Redditor Thefluffypoodle explained how to get the mask just right in a comment on the social media platform.

She said her mom passed down some essential beauty tips.

“Turmeric mask for glow, choosing the right shades of lipstick for undertone, good well-aligned teeth make or break your face, using sunscreen, and eating a lot of stews and steamed foods,” she said.

She also added that her mom recommended swapping refined sugar for natural sugars like honey or dates.

MASK ON

One Redditor was intrigued by the turmeric mask mentioned and asked for the recipe.

“You need to use kasturi [manjal] turmeric, not the stuff you cook with, it’s a darker mustard [color] and smells earthy,” she said.

She also had advice for those struggling with dry skin.

“If you have drier skin then you can mix turmeric, rose water, and yogurt to make a creamy mask,” she advised.

She pointed out how to tweak the recipe for those who struggle with zits.

“If you have acne prone skin then you can do turmeric, aloe, honey and rose water instead,” she said.

“You can add some sandalwood powder and Fuller’s Earth/Clay to Turmeric Powder and rose water for a clarifying mask that cleans pores and removes sebum also.”

Fuller’s Earth Powder is sold for $12.99 on Amazon.

She also gave a word of advice to another Redditor who asked if the mask dripped.

It was a valid question as turmeric is known for its tough-to-remove stains.

“It doesn’t drip; use thicker yogurt and you can mix some chickpea flour or rice flour to make it a smoother paste if you’d like,” she said.

“Just apply a thin layer. You can use it a few times a week or just once.”

She added when not to use the DIY homemade mask.

“Don’t use it on the days you’ve used any kind of actives on your face or you might find that it stings and irritates your skin,” she added.

WHY TURMERIC?

Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which may help combat acne.

The root is also excellent as an antioxidant, removing oxidative stress from the body.

According to Harvard University, turmeric has been used for years in both Chinese medicine and Ayurveda.

Not only can it potentially treat acne, it can also help with issues like digestive disorders.
