Unrecognisable Titanic child star reveals exactly how much money he’s made – over 25 years on from hit film
A CHILD star who acted in the Titanic has lifted the lid on his earnings decades on from the film’s release.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are famed for their roles in the romantic drama based on heartbreaking real life events.
But one of their lesser known co-stars is Reece Thompson, who was only five years old when he played an extra for one scene in the blockbuster.
The one-time actor starred as an unnamed Irish boy who was seen being comforted by his mum as they waited to get into a lifeboat.
Because his family was working class, his mum explained that they would not be allowed onto the deck to escape the sinking ship until the first-class passengers had all been allowed to board.
She was later seen tucking him into bed before the boat completely filled with water, drowning the last occupants.
Speaking to Business Insider, Reece revealed that a talent agent had given his mum the choice between him appearing on-screen in an advert or a film when he was young.
She picked the flick, and that turned out to be a lucky choice as Reece is still raking in the cash to this day.
“It turned out to be one of the highest-grossing films in history,” he laughed, “so it’s pretty bizarre in retrospect.”
“My mum was like: ‘Let’s just do it. It’ll be cool. Even if the movie sucks, we’ll see it.’
“Obviously, it ended up exploding, so that wasn’t a bad decision on her part, that’s for sure.”
Even though the 1997 Hollywood film is no longer at the forefront of Reece’s mind, he shared that he still gets annual cheques from the role.
He added: “When it happens, it’s like, ‘Oh, cool, an extra $100.’
“There have been a couple of times where it’s been like: ‘Oh, wow, that’s a $250 check.’
“But hopefully, they keep playing it a lot because that means more money for me.”
