Saratoga's Own: Saratoga Spring Water

What began as a hidden gem in Upstate New York is now a fixture on restaurant tables across the country.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- What began as a hidden gem in Upstate New York is now a fixture on restaurant tables across the country.

You'll likely recognize those sleek, cobalt blue glass bottles. Saratoga Spring Water, served both carbonated and "still," was born in the foothills of the Adirondacks.

The company goes all the way back to 1872. Back then, when it was founded by a group of local businessmen, it was called "Saratoga Vichy," as a nod to the fabled French mineral springs.

Today, the operation has a much more modern look. While the water is spring-sourced from various parts of the Northeast, you can find it being bottled at the plant on Geyser Road in Saratoga.

Even after more than a century of history, Plant Manager Ryan Barclay says business is ramping up lately.

"We've probably grown double--twice--in the last three years," Barclay said.

Part of that growth can be linked to Saratoga Spring Water's partnership with Bravo's Top Chef. The most recent winner of the show, Buddha Lo, visited the Spa City for the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival.

Even while the company makes it big time, its roots are right in our backyard.

"We have people that have been with this factory for over 30 years who have a ton of pride, not just being here with the company, but also in this great community," said Barclay.
