Fred Astaire studios from across NY competing in Albany

A major dance competition is being held in Albany for the first time in 15 years. It's called the New York Capital Dance Sport Championships, and it brings together hundreds of performers from more than a dozen Fred Astaire Dance Studios.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A major dance competition is being held in Albany for the first time in 15 years. It's called the New York Capital Dance Sport Championships, and it brings together hundreds of performers from more than a dozen Fred Astaire Dance Studios.

Dancers from all corners of New York State--from Buffalo to New York City--are in Albany Saturday representing their studios. That includes the Capital Region Fred Astaire studios in Latham and Saratoga Springs. For the local dancers, it's an exciting opportunity to compete nearby.

"Having it locally gives the opportunity for so many more people to be able to participate that maybe don't have the time to be able to go and travel downstate or go somewhere else, so it gives them a nice goal to work towards," said Elizabeth Masko, owner of the Fred Astaire Studio in Saratoga Springs.

The competition is from 7:00 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the Wolf Road Marriott. Tickets are $45 at the door for spectators.
