Watch the brutal moment mum slams daughter’s wedding dress because her stomach ‘isn’t flat’ – people say she’s jealous

TRYING on your dream wedding dress for the first time is always a special moment, but not for one woman.

The bride-to-be’s excitement was dampened by her mum’s rude comments about her body.

Appearing on an episode of Say Yes To The Dress, professional cheerleader Kari Pujadas was clear about the style she wanted to go for.

She explained that she wanted something simple that wasn’t too over the top.

However, her mum Jeanne accompanied her to the bridal shop and said that she wanted to see her daughter in something that “emphasises her figure.”

Wedding dress consultant Flo picked out a lacey look with a fit and flair cut to go with Kari’s antique theme.

“OK, this style is definitely the style,” Kari said as she tried on the dress.

Flo, who helped her fit the dress before showing it to her family, said she was “in love” with how it fit Kari.

“I like this one, this could be the one, I like it a lot,” Kari said as she walked out of the dressing room to model the look.

However, the bride-to-be was met with silence from her mum and sister as she posed in the dress.

When prompted to make a comment, Jeanne said she thought the look was “plain.”

She added that she didn’t think the cut of the dress gave Kari a waistline.

Jeanne then placed her hand on her daughter’s midriff and told her that it didn’t look flat in the dress.

Kari suggested that she could wear a corset on the day but her mum wasn’t sold on the idea.

Lori, the owner of the bridal shop, couldn’t believe Jeanne’s response to the dress.

“‘I don’t like it, it doesn’t hide her stomach,’ I am flabbergasted,” she said.

Kari, who said she wanted her mum to love her wedding dress as much as she loved her sister’s, decided to say no to the style.

How to pick the perfect wedding dress

Wedding season is in full swing, but when it comes to picking your perfect dress, most new brides-to-be probably feel a bit clueless.

As someone who’s tying the knot in August 2024, Josie Griffiths, deputy digital Fabulous editor and bride-to-be, has shared her top tips…

  1. Give yourself time – unless you’re a sample size, dresses can take months to even arrive. Don’t stress yourself out by looking too late, in my opinion dress shopping should be the second thing on your list, right after finding a venue.
  2. Visit multiple shops – you don’t want to be buying on your first visit.
  3. But not too many – like a f***boy who can’t stop swiping on Tinder, having too much choice isn’t going to help you find The One.
  4. Take people with you – women who will be honest but also hype you up, unlike the mean relatives on Say Yes To The Dress, and ideally people from different areas of your life who won’t automatically say the same thing. I shopped with my mum and two best friends, who didn’t know each other and had different styles.
  5. Think it over – I returned to the shop before making my final decision on the dress I chose, re-trying it with my second favourite to make sure I was certain. It’s an expensive purchase, and you can’t send it back like you might your next Asos order, so take time to mull it over.

YouTube users shared their thoughts on the interaction in the comments section of the video.

“How awful of that mother to say that–to body-shame her daughter like that! Her daughter is GORGEOUS!” wrote one viewer.

“It’s amazing that awful woman created such a lovely daughter. Her figure is flawless. What is wrong with her?” asked another person.

“That mom is not only jealous of her daughter but abusive too,” commented a third subscriber.

“With that first dress this mama was a prime example of ‘projecting your own insecurities onto your daughter.’ WOOF,” said another YouTube user.
