Somali police have reported that a recent attack on a beachfront hotel in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, has resulted in the deaths of 32 people and left 63 others injured.

On Saturday, August 3, Somali police announced that the militant group al-Shabaab, affiliated with al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Abdifatah Adan Hassan, a spokesman for the Somali police, informed the media that one military personnel was killed and another injured in the attack, with the rest of the victims being civilians.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing attackers wearing explosive vests at the site moments before the assault. Local residents also heard gunfire following the explosion at the hotel. One witness mentioned that an attacker detonated explosives within the hotel premises.

Reports indicate that the militant group al-Shabaab controls parts of southern and central Somalia and continues to fight against the government in their quest to establish an Islamic state in the country.

The recent attacks highlight the ongoing security challenges in Somalia, particularly in areas frequented by civilians. The violence perpetrated by al-Shabaab underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and international support to address the persistent threats and protect innocent lives.
