GOP hurts Americans by whittling away at good policies, one by one

The Republican Party has pummeled Americans with two recent policy decisions—and if they win in November, they could hit us with more.

On Thursday, Senate Republicans successfully blocked a bipartisan bill that would have expanded eligibility for the child tax credit, reducing the amount of federal taxes owed by qualifying families.

The bill was unable to reach the 60-vote threshold required to defeat a filibuster, an archaic procedure that allows a senator to block a vote. Ohio Sen. JD Vance, who has claimed support for children and spewed misogynistic anger toward “childless cat ladies,” was predictably absent and didn’t cast a vote because the GOP vice presidential nominee was out on the campaign trail.

Also this week, Charter Communications, the internet service provider that served the most customers through the federally funded Affordable Connectivity Program, says it is shedding customers who can no longer afford service.
