In his viral video, TikTok user Marv (@plantedinthegarden) shared his go-to ways to protect his plants.

He explained that he keeps an organic garden so he avoids using chemicals to repel insects.

Instead, he has implements a series of DIY techniques to keep unwanted critters and rodents away.

These include simply picking bugs off his plant leaves before they can lay eggs and creating a “bigger problem.”

He also uses netting to individually cover the fruit and vegetables he grows as well as building structures to cover his flowerbeds to prevent rodents from snacking on his plants.

Marv also recommended adding specific plants to your garden to keep bugs away.

“Plants like herbs and onions are great at repelling insects,” he revealed.

The experts at Bug House Pest Control explained why onion is an effective repellant.

“The sulfur component in onions keeps bugs at a distance by producing an odor that bugs hate,” they said.

Garlic is also an effective pest repellant and can even be used in place of chemical sprays.

“If you don’t time to hand pick the bugs, you can use natural insecticide like onion and garlic and water spray,” Marv advised.

Bug House Pest Control also reported on the role of garlic in keeping away insects.

“Garlic, like onions, is made out of a sulfur component that bugs run from,” they explained.

Marv also suggested making use of sticky traps in areas where you often notice flies.

He added that flowers are great at attracting beneficial bugs, helping get rid of unwanted ones.
