Brucelee Almightee does not have to wait until tomorrow as he was announced yesterday as winner of the Starcom Network and Flow in association with National Cultural Foundation People’s Monarch.

The Tomorrow singer, who was very emotional atStarcom’s offices on River Road, The City, congratulated the other finalist Tionne Hernandez ( Starta Pack) after garnering 74.62 per cent of the votes and walking away with the $15 000 cash prize.

“They say a man shouldn’t show his emotions but right now I am all over the place.

I am so happy and jubilated.

This has been a big year for me and I thank the people who have been supporting me and in my corner. I love you very much.”

“I voted ‘nuff nuff nuff nuff’ for myself,” he told the Saturday Sun, laughing, as his supporters and the passing public jumped and screamed at his win.

The Carter’s General Store employee thanked the voters, his co-workers, customers, fans, family and friends for the overwhelming numbers throughout the competition, now in its 20th edition.

Brucelee faced stiff competitors from the quarterfinals coming up against

Mikey and Blood (HOTP), earning 60.11 per cent of the votes. He next faced the duo of Saddis & Jus Jay (Byex2) in the first semi-final, where voters put him into the final with 70.69 per cent of the votes.

The artiste said he was very deliberate this year with his Crop Over offering.

“People know me doing a certain type of songs. This year I said let me change that and look at a different way of life, show people that I can be serious and do other things.

“I have seen so many people passing away, I

said I wanted to write something about enjoying life. I started writing this from December. I sent it to Noize Boyz and said I wanted him to hear it and from that time he said he wanted to work with me on it.

We just build and build and build on it.

“I took my time with this one. I wrote some lyrics and told myself I don’t like that.

I erased it and come again, erase this one and come back again and when I think I have it, I said, ‘Yes, this is it’.”

This was not Brucelee Almightee’s first win as he copped Road March in 2022 with Mauby, again with Noize Boyz.

The artiste, whose real name is Bruce Robinson, said he liked performing and being in the spotlight from his secondary school days and this set him on his journey in entertainment.

“Everybody would know me from singing with Mole as Brucelee Almightee. We had Aye in 2018 and Bad Badd in 2021,” said the former Alexandra School student and member of the House of Soca tent.

In 2018 Brucelee made it to the finals of the People’s Monarch with Aye, only to be edged out by Lil Rick’s True Story. (NS)
