Alistair Lees, 35, has now been banged up in prison after helping himself to the huge haul of contraceptive sheaths in just one visit to a Boots the chemist store last month.

Magistrates described him as a “professional” shoplifter.

They heard he stole the condoms from the Bournemouth shop during a theft spree.

He also targeted two Co-op stores in the seaside resort and a Marks & Spencer in New Milton, Hants, nicking goods including alcohol, sweets, condiments and toiletries.

The defendant appeared at Poole magistrates court charged with seven counts of shoplifting.

Court records showed the spree stretched from December last year until he was arrested on July 24 after ransacking the condom shelves.

Lees, of Bournemouth, admitted all the charges against him.

He was jailed for 48 weeks and magistrates ordered him to pay compensation of £200.
