Firefighters respond to five-alarm fire in Queens

QUEENS VILLAGE, Queens (PIX11) -- Firefighters responded to a five-alarm fire in Queens Village Saturday afternoon, according to the FDNY.

A fire broke out in multiple private dwellings on Francis Lewis Boulevard, setting off the alarms shortly after 4 p.m., officials said.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control in two hours. The fire began at a residence on Francis Lewis Boulevard and spread to seven dwellings, officials said.

Propane tanks also exploded in the back of the first building, according to the FDNY.

Eleven firefighters and three civilians sustained minor injuries.

The American Red Cross also responded and is connecting with impacted residents to provide them with temporary housing.
