San Jose: CHP apprehends suspect in I-280 off-ramp shooting

San Jose man, 41, arrested on attempted murder and other felony charges

Law enforcement officers have made an arrest in May’s Interstate 280 freeway shooting in San Jose.

California Highway Patrol officers, in conjunction with the San Jose Police Department, recently apprehended a 41-year-old San Jose resident in connection with the case. He was booked on multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

CHP officers were initially dispatched on May 15 to the northbound off-ramp at Saratoga Avenue after reports of a shooting. While the victim in the other vehicle was uninjured, a bullet hole was found in the car’s right fender.

The CHP executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home on July 25 after identifying him through a license plate reader camera.

The suspect is currently being held without bail at Santa Clara County Jail.
