Centre issues first-ever guidelines on transporting organs

India's Union Health Ministry has introduced its first Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the seamless transport of human organs. The new guidelines allow airlines to request priority take-off and landing, arrange front-row seats, and facilitate late check-ins for medical staff. The SOPs also include protocols for creating "green corridors" for uninterrupted organ transport and priority transit for metro and road travel. Developed with input from NITI Aayog and transplant professionals, these SOPs aim to maximize organ utilization and improve the efficiency of life-saving transplants.
