BBC Breakfast cut short after just two hours live on-air in show shake up

On a Sunday, BBC Breakfast kicks off at 6am and is fronted by a host of broadcasters on rotation.

This week, Ben Thompson presented solo from the iconic red sofa as he discussed shock riots across the UK the day before.

Hundreds of thugs had run riot across the UK in areas including Bristol, Stoke and Liverpool on Saturday while gangs had sparked fires in Hull.

Yet after a segment about hoarding – and how to get help in slimming down clutter – the programme was cut short at 8am.

Wearing a smart blue suit and pink-tie Ben faced the camera as he told viewers: “That’s all from us on the programme this morning.

“We will be back, BBC One, from 6am tomorrow.”

He then added: “Have a great day, we’ll see you very soon.

“Bye bye.”

Last Sunday, BBC Breakfast followed a similar pattern as it was switched up on the schedule, with a huge politics show also moved.

The changes are down to the broadcaster’s ongoing coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Team GB are currently standing an impressive fifth in the medal table.

Day Nine will see the Men’s Singles Tennis final as well as the Men’s 100m final on the track.

Team GB’s Dina Asher-Smith will also battle in the first round of the Women’s 200m in the Stade De France.

Who are the current presenters of BBC Breakfast?

The flagship BBC show has had dozens of presenters during its impressive 40 years on air but the current stars are:

Jon Kay – Since 2022

Sally Nugent – Since 2021

Charlie Stayt – Since 2006

Naga Munchetty – Since 2014

Carol Kirkwood – Since 1997

Meanwhile, Ben is a fan-favourite among BBC One viewers and recently filled in in regular anchor Sally Nugent’s absence.

Off-screen, the broadcaster has proved a huge hit with fans.

He left them gushing over his “super sexy” gym images.

Recently he also delighted show regulars when he uploaded a snap showing him hanging out with his co-stars.
