Huge new showroom to open in much-loved coastal town – with car wash, parking spaces for 100s of motors & EV chargers

A HUGE new showroom is set to open in a much-loved coastal town with a car wash, parking spaces for hundreds of motors and EV chargers.

Town hall bosses have now given the greenlight for the major new showroom on Mellishaw Lane in Morecambe, Lancs.

Apart from the showroom the site will feature a car wash,
valeting buildings, new roads, parking, boundary enclosures, landscaping and infrastructure.

And the business will feature 18 new EV charging points for locals. The site is currently home to Cox Motor Group’s AutoMart dealership.

The council’s report reveals the site sits within an area in need of development.

A design and access statement from the plans said: “The new car showroom is within the site area of the present Lancaster Volkswagen curtilage and will replace the present Automart sales which is housed in a temporary building.”

The statement added: “The new car sales building will house Automart plus two further car brands.”

The report reveals that 18 electric vehicle charging points are to be installed, which should help with air quality impacts once the site has been constructed.

The new showroom will be next to the existing VW dealership on Mellishaw Lane.

An air quality assessment was submitted to show the worst-case impact of development increasing vehicle movements by
three per cent and HGV by 5.6 per cent.

Planners at Lancaster City Council gave the greenlight at a meeting held earlier this week.

Morecambe resident Tyson Fury is a self-confessed petrol head, with a fleet of luxury motors.

The professional boxer bought a couple of Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II motors – each priced at a staggering £384,000. And there is the  £140,000 Porsche Taycan.

But Fury is equally proud of his  Vauxhall Passat – which he regularly cleans on the driveway of his multi-million-pound Morecambe mansion.

Earlier this year he said: “Before I was boxing I was a car trader. While I’ve been boxing I’ve been messing around with cars. It’s my hobby.

“I love a deal, whether it’s for 10p or 10 grand or 10 million, whatever. I love having a deal.

“My first car was a 1997 Fiat Fiorino. I paid £360 for it. That was my first car that I was driving about in.

“But I actually bought my first car when I was ten-years-old.”
