‘It’s not a brilliant idea’ Emmerdale star speaks out on real life age gaps as character is embroiled in love triangle

AN EMMERDALE actress has candidly opened up on her thoughts on age-gap relationships amid her character’s love triangle plotline.

The ITV screen star told how her on-screen persona’s interest in a younger woman was not a “brilliant idea” and she “worried” about the difference in generations.

Yet, despite her concerns, Emmerdale‘s Louise Jameson, 73, who plays Mary Goskirk, insists her character is a “good match” with much-younger Suzy Morton.

Back in February, The Sun first reported on Mary’s new love interest storyline.

Shortly afterwards, we told how the character suffered a heartbreaking blow as Vanessa Woodfield set her sights on the same love interest – Suzy – just as Mary’s feelings were becoming clear.

Actress Michelle Hardwick‘s Vanessa then became intent on winning Martelle Edinborough‘s character back, making her feelings very clear.

Now Louise has opened up to The Mirror about a resurrection of the plot, which saw the former couple reunite.

She teased the outcome and told the publication: “Maybe a love triangle!

“Maybe she’ll get together with Suzy, I don’t know what’s going on yet. I do think they’re in good match.

“In real life, I would worry about the age gap.

“If you’re old enough to be someone’s mother, it’s probably not a brilliant idea.

“However, it happens to a lot of people so it’s to do with the people!”

Talking about the timeline of the scripts, she added: “There’s going to be a love life storyline but I don’t know when!

“But they keep dangling this carrot.”

It comes as Mary has been trying to move on from her former girlfriend Faye Helders.

The pair met in early 2023, after Mary came out as a lesbian to her pal Kim Tate and daughter Rhona.

Yet things quickly turned sour.

After a fire at a women’s shelter, Faye swiftly stole money from a fundraiser set up to support it.

Faye took the money made in the fundraiser for herself, attacking Mary in the process in shocking scenes.

Faye then managed to escape but eventually returned to the Dales and tried to take advantage of Mary again, by using an intimate photo against her.

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
