Team GB star Dina Asher-Smith breaks down in tears and walks out of live BBC interview at Paris Olympics

DINA ASHER-SMITH broke down and walked out of a BBC interview when asked about her 100m exit.

The Team GB star failed to reach the final of the women’s 100m at the Paris Olympics.

After competing in the 200m this morning, the sprinter was still dwelling on the previous failure.

She was asked about if she had taken some time between the races by the BBC.

However, Asher-Smith, 28, could only answer by saying, “I’m very upset”.

After responding, she walked away from the interview as the interviewer took sympathy and said, “That’s fine”.

She came second in her round one heat only losing to Nigerian athlete Favour Ofili.

Asher-Smith ran a time of 22.48 seconds, just 0.2 behind her rival.

Her time was good enough to qualify for the semi-finals, which will take place on Monday.

She will be joined by Team GB team-mates Daryll Neita and Bianca Williams, who also qualified for the next round.

Asher-Smith finished in her fifth in her 100m semi-final, having seen American Melissa Jefferson finish first in 10.99 seconds.

After the race, she insisted that she was “disappointed” with her performance as she ran the distance in 11.10 seconds.

The clip of her interview has quickly gone viral on social media, with plenty of fans offering their support.

One said: “Keep your head up champ.”

A second commented: “Always next time star.”

A third wrote: “She was and still is a top athlete. She has nothing to prove.”

Another added: “Gosh, I love this girl and feel for her.”

As well as the 200m, she will also compete in the 4x100m relay which will start on Thursday.
