Man Utd’s injury crisis worsens as young defender carried off on stretcher in latest pre-season friendly

The 2024-25 Premier League season has yet to start and Manchester United are already dealing with several injury issues.

Their problems further increased as Will Fish picked up a knock in their 3-0 pre-season loss to Liverpool in South Carolina.

The 21-year-old was introduced in the game at half-time by manager Erik ten Hag, replacing Jonny Evans in the heart of the defence.

But the defender suffered a blow to his ankle and was carried off on a stretcher less than 30 minutes after coming on.

Fish looked visibly distraught and Ten Hag walked onto the pitch to console him.

It was feared the youngster could miss the pre-season tour after suffering an injury against Rosenborg.

But he recovered in time to be part of the matchday squad against Liverpool, only to pick up another issue during the game.

Man United are already without £52 million summer arrival Leny Yoro and striker Rasmus Hojlund.

The duo picked up serious injuries in United’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal last month and are now facing lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Yoro is out for three months which means he could miss nine Premier League matches.

Hojlund has been ruled out for six weeks, meaning he may not return to action until mid-September.

United’s pre-season tour is over, and they will return to England for the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The Red Devils will face Fulham in their league opener against Fulham on Friday, August 16.
