The Iranian Human Rights Organization has reported that at least 300 individuals, including 20 Afghan citizens, have been executed in Iranian prisons during the first 7 months of this year.

The organization, in a report published on Saturday, August 3rd, has urged the international community to focus on the situation in Iranian prisons and the issue of executions in the country.

According to the report, among those executed in the past seven months were 42 Baluch individuals, 20 Kurds, 20 Afghans, one Iraqi, and 15 women.

The Iranian Human Rights Organization stated that out of these individuals, 172 were executed on charges related to drug offenses, 110 for murder, 15 for security-related charges, five for espionage for Israel, five for connections with Sunni groups, and three for rape.

Mahmood Amiri Moqaddam, the head of the Iranian Human Rights Organization, expressed particular concern over a new wave of executions of civil activists and individuals accused of drug crimes in the coming weeks and months.

He emphasized that only by increasing the political cost through civil society protests and international pressure can this wave of executions be prevented.

According to the organization, there has been a relative decrease in executions in Iran since the second round of presidential elections, following the death of Ibrahim Raisi.

Meanwhile, despite periodic decreases in executions, the ongoing trend of capital punishment in Iran remains a significant concern for human rights organizations, which continue to advocate for its cessation.
