Cup of Coffee: Casas drives in three; Jordan and Teel homer

8/4 Cup of Coffee:
A home run from Jamie Westbrook (pictured) and three RBIs from Triston Casas helped Worcester put up double-digit runs. David SandlinBlaze Jordan, and Kyle Teel led Portland to victory, while Ronald Rosario and Natanael Yuten had clutch hits for Greenville and Salem, respectively.

A 12-hit attack led Worcester as the offense stayed hot. Jamie Westbrook went 3 for 4 with a home run, his ninth of the year. Triston Casas drove in three runs while notching his first extra-base hit of his rehab assignment. He finished 2 for 4 with a walk. Eddy Alvarez also drove in three runs as part of a 3-for-5 night, including a double and a steal, and Chase Meidroth drew four walks. Starter Brad Keller allowed two runs over three innings, and Alex Speas was first out of the bullpen. He recorded one out and was pulled with an apparent injury. A solo home run was the only hit Greg Weissert allowed over his two innings, and the win went to Naoyuki Uwasawa

David Sandlin led a solid pitching performance for Portland as they improved to 56-43. Sandlin struck out six and walked one over four innings of one-run ball. Robert Kwiatkowski improved to 9-2 with two shutout innings, and Brendan Cellucci earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth. A two-run home run from Blaze Jordan and a solo shot from Kyle Teel were the highlights on offense, and both players added a walk. Alex Binelas went 2 for 4 with his fourth triple, and Phillip Sikes added an RBI double.

A walk-off double from Ronald Rosario sent the Greenville fans home happy. Rosario had three hits and three RBI on the day. Miguel Bleis went 1 for 6 with his fifth home run, and Jhostynxon Garcia went 2 for 5 with a double and his 16th home run. Both Juan Chacon and Eduardo Lopez had two doubles. Blake Wehunt had a rocky start as he allowed four runs over five innings, but struck out seven while walking only one. The win went to Reidis Sena who did not allow a run in the 10th or 11th.

In completing Friday's suspended game, Salem recovered after losing the lead in the ninth. After facing the minimum over his first two innings, Denis Reguillo allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth that sent the game to extras. An RBI single from Brooks Brannon and a two-run triple from Natanael Yuten gave Salem a three-run lead in the 10th, and Max Carlson secured the win despite allowing two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning. Michael Sansone was terrific in his three innings, striking out five without allowing a run, and Eduardo Rivera allowed just an unearned run over three innings in his Salem debut. 

Salem Red Sox 3, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 1 (Suspended, 4th inning)
The second game of the day was suspended in the fourth inning with the Red Sox holding a 3-1 lead. The game is scheduled to be completed on Sunday.

A single from Jhoan Peguero in the ninth prevented a no-hitter. In addition to the only offensive performance of note, Peguero added an outfield assist at home. Starter Yermain Ruiz allowed an earned run for the first time in four starts as the Orioles scored twice in his five innings. He took his first loss, but his ERA is still an impressive 1.43 over 37 2/3 innings.

It was an all-around team win for the Blue squad as they took down the first-place team in the DSL North. Jesus TraviesoGilbel Galvan, and Felix Belisario all had scoreless outings, with Belisario going the final three innings to earn his first save. Givian Sirvania ran wild, stealing three bases while going 1 for 3 with a walk and a double. Liosward Marin went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk, and Vladimir Asencio went 3 for 5 with a triple and two steals.

Player of the Day: Jamie Westbrook went 3 for 4 with a home run while scoring three times in Worcester's victory. Boston optioned Westbrook to Worcester on Wednesday, and he's gone 6 for 14 with three walks in four games since. The 29-year-old struggled to a .150/.234/.350 in 48 plate appearances with Boston, but he's up to .291/.384/.489 in 65 games with the WooSox.
