Destiny Udogie has been out injured for a while

Udogie missed the last few weeks of the 2023-24 season with an injury, with the Italian’s absence being very much felt by the Lilywhites.

Ange Postecoglou was forced to play Micky van de Ven at left-back for the final few matches of last season and the Australian will be delighted to finally have the former Udinese man back, given how crucial the full-backs are to his system.

Udogie has now confessed that he is delighted to be back on the training field with his teammates after spending a few months on the treatment table.

The left-back told Football.London: “I think it’s been honestly the best feeling after being out so long. Being back with the boys is really nice, but [this training] is not easy! But I’m good. I’m good. Yeah, I feel better and I’m getting good.

“It’s the first time I’ve been out for so long. So it wasn’t easy, but my teammates were really great, they helped me a lot. I think [the process] is mental. You have to be ready because obviously, it’s not easy to be far from the pitch. You just want to play football, but my family was with me and my teammates.”

The injury also forced Udogie to miss the Euros, which would have been his first major tournament for Italy.

Speaking about having to watch the Azzurri from afar in Germany this summer, the Spurs man said: “Yeah, I think it’s been a tough one to take, but more to come so it’s ok.”

Udogie is a fan of Jamie Donley

Finally, the 21-year-old, who has had the chance to train alongside Donley for the past 12 months, revealed that the youngster has won him over.

When asked about the attacking midfielder’s showing in pre-season, Udogie responded: “Honestly, he’s been great, he’s been great. I know Jamie really well. He’s an incredible player with a lot of quality so I know what he can do and he can be good in any position.

“I think what he’s doing is good. I saw him [against Team K League] as well, so he’s performing well and he’s doing great.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Having Porro and Udogie fit and firing for the start of the season would be a huge shot in the arm for Spurs, given how important the full-backs are to Postecoglou’s system.

The Italian will be chomping at the bits to get going after spending a couple of months on the treatment table.
