Olympics 2024 fans only just realising why Rebecca Adlington & BBC team all wear same shoes thanks to little-known rule

OLYMPICS fans are only just understanding why all of the BBC’s swimming team wear the same white trainers for their broadcast.

Presenter Clare Balding has been joined each day by former GB athletes Mark Foster and two-time Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington.

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted on Sunday that the trio sat poolside in the same white trainers.

According to one social media user on X, this is for a very good reason.

They understand white shoes must be worn in La Defense Arena where the swimming is being held throughout the Paris Games.

For the athletics in the Stade de France they must then wear red shoes.

And in the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome for the track cycling, blue footwear is the stipulated uniform.

Reacting to the little-known rule, one fan said: “Really??? Well I didn’t know that. What a great fact. Daft but Thank you.”

Host Balding, 53, made headlines earlier this week after she broke down in tears live on air after defeat for Andy Murray brought an end to his sensational career.

Speaking about Murray, Balding said: “My word, hasn’t he shown us everything he is about in his three matches here.

“It is never over until it’s over. And now sadly, in terms of his professional playing career that is it, it is over.

“And all we can say is thank you, thank you.”

Before she could get any more words out she turned to her punditry team and said “you better say something”, urging them to take over the broadcast as the emotions took over her.
