Crews rescue person trapped on Willamette River dam

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A person was rescued after being trapped on a dam in the Willamette River in Glenwood, Ore. late Saturday afternoon.

At around 4:15 p.m., Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) crews responded near the D Street landing on report of someone stuck on a low head dam.

On arrival, they found the person clinging to the dam. Crew members quickly worked their way to successfully rescue them.

According to ESF, the person was not only floating in a craft not designed for swift water, but was also not wearing a life jacket.

"There are numerous dangerous obstacles on our rivers both natural and manmade," ESF added in a social media post. "Please float the river in appropriate craft and wear a life jacket."
