Debby getting stronger, new tropical wave approaching the Caribbean

High pressure will take firm control of our atmosphere throughout this week leading to several days of triple digit heat! Rain chances will go down for this upcoming week.

TROPICS

Debby has intensified through the day today with satellite representation improving, pressure dropping, and winds increasing. As of the 4pm advisory Debby has a central pressure of 992mb and winds of 65 mph. Debby will likely become a hurricane through the next 12 hours before landfall tomorrow across the Big Bend of Florida. Thereafter, a slow movement to the north towards Georgia and the Carolinas will increase the flooding threat with some areas having the potential of receiving anywhere from 10-20 inches of rainfall.

A new tropical wave has emerged across the central Atlantic and is moving westward at around 20 mph. This tropical wave will enter the Caribbean early this week and be somewhere in the western Caribbean by the end of the week. The National Hurricane Center is giving the system a 20% chance of tropical development in the next seven days but these odds could increase once the system has more model support. Atmospheric conditions will be generally favorable for further development of this system. It's way too early to know the long term fate of this system, but it should continue to head generally westward due to strong high pressure across our area.
