Gamers spot hint that beloved game will make a comeback 20 years after the last big release

HALF-LIFE 3 has been expected for so long that it’s become a meme, with rumours about its development surfacing every few years.

The last full entry in the series, Half-Life 2, launched in 2004 and while two episodic entries followed, fans have been waiting for the next full game.

Rumours about Half-Life 3 being in development go as far back as 2011, however, developer Valve has never claimed to be working on it.

Given how long fans have been waiting for the game, if Valve were to announce it, gamers would be elated.

Fans have been desperately looking for signs that Half-Life 3 is in development, and they’ve just found another hint that it could still happen.

Voice actor Natasha Chandel has an impressive resume listed on their website, including big name games like Starfield, Valorant, and Fallout 76.

However, it isn’t any of these well-known titles that has caught gamers’ eye, but a mysterious untitled Valve project.

One entry on the list is codenamed Project White Sands, and while Chandel’s role is still ‘to be announced’ the developer is listed as Valve.

Half-Life fans on the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit, immediately began speculating about when Project White Sands could be.

They noticed that White Sands is the name of a national park in New Mexico, where Black Mesa, the lab that kicked off the events of Half-Life, was located.

However, while the project appears to be from the Half-Life series, it doesn’t mean that it is the long-awaited Half Life 3.

Adding fuel to the rumours is that Chandel removed the entry from their website shortly after it was discovered.

This could either be because Valve told her to remove allusions to its unannounced project, or because the influx of visitors was crashing the site.

The entry on Chandel’s website is only a small hint that a new Half-Life project is in the works, but it hasn’t stopped fans’ excitement.

One user wrote: “Half-Life 3 copium is back boys” while another added: “we’re so back.”

Others spoke about just how long fans have waited for a Half-Life 3 announcement, writing: “I think we’re at the stage in which, even if we actually get an announcement for Half-Life 3, none of us would take it seriously.

“Like, what? Letting one of the biggest memes in gaming die? Just like that?”
