PEOPLE have been left stunned after discovering the secret function of the string on the tea bag.
Teabags are an item that we use every single day, and which most of us have probably never given much thought to.
We dunk them in our mugs, leave them to brew and then just chuck them in the bin, without a second thought.
Tea bags come in all shapes and sizes, with some having a string and a bit of cardboard attacked to them.

In a recent video, TikToker @sky_nolan15 opened people’s eyes to the ingenious function of the string.
She said: “How many people knew this?
“You take the string and fold the paper end under your cup to keep it in place.”
In the video, Sky can be seen holding a paper coffee cup, and demonstrating the trick.
The string attached to the bottom of the mug, acting like an anchor, and preventing it from slipping.
It is extremely simple, yet so effective, and has left people across the globe baffled.

Sky’s video, has been shared across multiple social media platforms, where people have shared their shock and interest.
Some admitted that they had never seen a tea bag with a string attached to it.
Others thought that the string was simply to make it easier to yank the tea bag out of the cup.
Taking to Reddit, many shared their thoughts on the revelation.
One Redditor said: “I’ve never had a tea bag with string attached to it, sounds very posh.”
Another added: “I’ve only come across the tea bags with strings at the coffee machines in petrol stations or hotels.”
A third remarked: “Tea bag with a string attached is those odd flavoured teas. I don’t really drink those so I don’t run into this sort of problem.”
A fourth said: “I had a partner once who was mad about them so I did encounter this issue when making her various sorts of teas my solution was to put the tea bag in, and secure the string with my finger on the outside before pouring the water in so it doesn’t flop in.”
