Fortunately, they are extremely sensitive to smell, so can be repelled easily.

One TikToker, known online as @im_no_gardener, revealed that you can banish ants with a sprinkle of cinnamon, in less than 20 seconds.

Cinnamon is super cheap, and you can pick it up from Morrisons for £1.

Demonstrating his method, in a recent video, the TikToker said: “As you can see, I’ve got ants on my patio and I’m going to get rid of them.”

He took out a small bottle of the spice, and sprinkled it over his ant-infested patio.

The ants immediately scurried away.

He said: “I don’t know why ground cinnamon works but it definitely does.

“Must be something to do with the smell.”

The effectiveness of cinnamon as a pest repelled has been examined in scientific studies.

Researchers extracted chemical compounds from cinnamon and tested concentrated oils, to see if they repel ants.

The results support the TikToker’s claims, proving that cinnamon is a strong deterrent for ants.

As well as being cheap, cinnamon is also all-natural, meaning that it is not harmful to pollinators as bees.

Another method you can use to get rid of ants is white vinegar, which you can pick up from B&M for 79p.

Tips for keeping pests from your garden

  • Plant companion plants such as peppermint to repel rats.
  • Place Garden Netting Pest Barrier, over your flowerbeds.
  • Fill open-top containers with beer and place in soil to repel slugs.
  • Spray plants with Neem Oil, to repel ants, flies, and spiders.
  • Dust your flowerbeds with Diatomaceous Earth.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon dish soap, 10 drops peppermint oil, and 4 cups water and spray on flowerbeds.
  • Place eggshells around your plants to protect from slugs and snails.

Went ants enter your home, they leave pheromones to alert each other to the source of food.

To remove the pheromone trails, mix one part vinegar with three parts water, and wipe it with a damp cloth.

Ants also hate smells such as peppermint and lavender.

Mix lavender or peppermint oil with water and spray the mixture on to entry points like window sills and door frames to deter the ants.
