Popular Cadbury bar suddenly disappears from shelves due to ‘supply challenges’

A POPULAR Cadbury bar has vanished suddenly from supermarket shelves as “supply challenges” hit production.

The chocolate giant’s popular Darkmilk bar is suddenly in short supply.

A standard 90g bar of Darkmilk has not been available on Ocado since the end of June and has been out-of-stock in Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda since the middle of July, according to analysis by industry magazine The Grocer.

The standard bar was still missing from the online stores of all four retailers when The Sun checked today.

It is still available showing as available at Waitrose and Morrisons online.

Other items from the range, including Darkmilk buttons as well as bars flavoured with salted caramel and crunchy cocoa pieces bars, are still available.

 A Mondelēz International spokesperson said: “Cadbury Darkmilk is a core part of our range, and remains popular with consumers.

“We are aware of some temporary supply challenges, which we are working hard to resolve, but we can assure consumers that the product remains widely available across retailers in-store and online.”  

Cadbury launched its Darkmilk range in 2018, giving consumers an option between milk and dark chocolate with a “more grown-up taste“.

The bars contain 40 per cent cocoa and 14 per cent milk, compared to Dairy Milk which is made up of 23 per cent cocoa and 20 per cent milk.

The range launched with standard and roasted almond bars and proved a hit with consumers.

Cadbury has since launched other Darkmilk bars including hazelnut praline as well as salted caramel, as well as Darkmilk buttons and Darkmilk ice creams.

The chocolate industry has been hit by poor cocoa harvests in West Africa, which have driven up prices through the year.

This week has also seen chocoholics rush to buy a discontinued treat that has appeared in B&M this week.

Pictures of retro twin packs of Dairy Milk tubes were shared online, with shoppers celebrating their limited return.

Cadbury has also launched a twist on an old classic with share bags of mini Cadbury Puds.

In June the chocolate giant also announced it would bring back a “yummy” 90s chocolate bar after giving it a makeover.

Top Deck, which was first launched in 1993, has returned to shelves for a limited time.

Cadbury is also collaborating with biscuit giant Biscoff and Biscoff-flavoured Dairy Milk bars are expected to launch in early 2025.
