Georgiou finishes 6th at Olympic horizontal bar final
In the men’s horizontal bar final at the Paris Olympics, Cypriot gymnast Marios Georgiou faced a challenging moment with a fall during his exit, ultimately scoring 13.333 and finishing in 6th place.
Despite finishing outside the podium, his overall performance remains commendable. Paris 2024 marked his third Olympic participation and second final appearance, following his previous final at the Rio Games in 2016.
Georgiou began his routine at 3:01pm. The gold medal was won by Japan’s Shinnosuke Oka, followed by silver medallist Angel Barajas from Colombia and bronze medallists – ex aequo – Zhang Boheng from China and Tang Chia-hung from Chinese Taipei.
The 26-year-old Cypriot champion competed in the qualifying round of the individual all-around category in the second group, at the Bercy Arena, accumulating a total of 79,498 points.
Georgiou’s scores per event were: Floor Exercise- 13.266, Pommel Horse- 13.400, Rings- 12.900, Vault- 13.966, Parallel Bars – 11.600, Horizontal Bar- 14.366.
