Woman, 25, who worked at nursery where nine-month-old girl was killed admits mistreating four kids

A WOMAN who worked at the same nursery where nine-month-old Genevieve Meehan was killed has admitted child neglect.

Rebecca Gregory, 25, has pleaded guilty to mistreating four kids at the Tiny Toes nursery in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, in April 2022.

Genevieve Meehan was found unresponsive and blue at the nursery in May 2022.

The tot was rushed to hospital but couldn’t be saved and died later that day.

Kate Roughley, 37, was convicted of her manslaughter in May earlier this year.

Now Gregory, who also worked at the nursery, has admitted child neglect after CCTV footage was viewed as part of police operation.

The footage revealed Gregory had pulled a blanket over one girl and swaddled her, before pulling the edge down, “causing the child to spin and roll uncontrolled on the floor” and leave her crying.

She also slammed one boy hard down on the floor, causing an “audible thud” and an “outburst of distressed crying”.

She was then heard to say: “What you f***ing doing kid?”

Moryam Begum, prosecuting, told the court Gregory had again swaddled a second boy tightly.

She then picked him up from a cot facing outwards and told him: “Put your arm through and f****** go home.”

She picked up a third boy from play mat by the arms and put him in a high chair, causing his head to “slam” the back of it.

On a separate occasion, she swaddled the same boy tightly and put him down on a blanket.

With reference to a dummy, she then told him: “Put that in your gob and shut up.”

She also leant over him and forced his head down to the edge of the blanket.

Gregory, of Stockport, will be sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court on September 9.

It comes two years after the death of baby Genevieve at the same nursery.

She had been strapped to a bean bag face down and was tightly swaddled for almost two hours while her cries were “simply ignored”.

Roughley, a qualified nursery nurse, was jailed for 14 years.

In a heartbreaking victim impact statement, Genevieve’s mum Katie Wheeler told how she is “haunted” by her daughter’s death.

She added: “I am dead inside and incapable of living. She is my little girl, she lived inside me – she is a part of me.”
