Oakland fire damages two homes: TFD

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Topeka firefighters extinguished a house fire in the Oakland neighborhood Monday morning that caused thousands of dollars in damages.

The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) received a call about a fire around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 5 for a home in the 290 block of NE Sumner street. Crews arriving at the home found smoke and flames coming from a single-story house.

Daniel Garrett with the City of Topeka said in a press release no people were found inside the home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported in connection to this situation.

TFD investigators found the cause of the fire was incendiary. The total damage estimate in association with this fire is $40,000 for the house along with $15,000 in damage caused to a nearby home.
