Cohoes man sentenced 8 years for robbery

A Cohoes man was sentenced on Friday for a 2023 robbery in Mechanicville. Justin Franz, 44, was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Mechanicville, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Cohoes man was sentenced on Friday for a 2023 robbery in Mechanicville. Justin Franz, 44, was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Around 9:50 p.m. on July 4, 2023, police responded to the Lukoil at the intersection of William Street and North Main Street in Mechanicville for reports of a robbery in progress. According to police, the suspect attacked a person in the store, stole items and fled on foot.

After searching the surrounding area, police found Franz at the J.S. Moore Homes on Harris Avenue, just after midnight. He was then taken into custody and charged with multiple charges.

CHARGES:

• Robbery in the first-degree
• Robbery in the second-degree
• Assault in the second-degree
• Criminal Mischief in the third-degree
• Petit Larceny
• Resisting Arrest

Franz was later remanded to the Saratoga County Jail. On May 31, 2024, Franz pleaded guilty to robbery in the second-degree, a violent class C felony. Following his prison sentence, Franz was sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.
