Beekman man charged with armed burglary at motel
BEEKMAN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest of a Beekman man after a burglary investigation. Christopher Ortiz, 42, is facing several charges stemming from an incident on August 1.
On Thursday around 6:40 p.m., deputies responded to the Pine Grove Motel on Route 55 in Beekman following the report of an active burglary. The ensuing investigation determined that Ortiz allegedly entered a room at the motel by force while armed with a knife.
According to the Sheriff's Office, no one was injured during the burglary and the incident is not believed to be random. Ortiz was taken into custody later that evening and now faces the following charges:
- First-degree burglary
- Second-degree menacing
- Fourth-degree criminal mischief
Ortiz was arraigned at the Town of LaGrange Court before being remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center without bail. He is scheduled to appear at the Town of Beekman Court on August 6.
