Forest Hills Stadium starts petition over potential shutdown due to lawsuit
FOREST HILLS, Queens (PIX11) – A long-running fight between Queens neighbors and Forest Hills Stadium appears to be picking up steam again.
The stadium started a Change.org petition, saying it's at risk of being shut down over a lawsuit.
"Forest Hills Stadium has been a part of the fabric of Queens for decades, but it is now being threatened with a frivolous lawsuit and is at risk of being shut down," the stadium wrote on the petition. "Please help show local representatives in government that the community and the people they serve love and support Forest Hills Stadium."
At least three lawsuits were filed in 2023 against Forest Hills Stadium, according to reports. The lawsuits complained of excessive noise and trespassing by concertgoers.
A judge ruled back in May that the show could go on at Forest Hills Stadium, but the noise level will be monitored.
Forest Hills Stadium argued in its petition that concerts are done by 10 p.m., cleaners take care of the streets around the venue before, during and after shows and it spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to control the noise.
The petition is looking for 25,000 signatures and has more than 20,000 as of Monday morning.
