Hannah Einbinder (‘Hacks’): Emmys 2024 episode submission revealed

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Hannah Einbinder is entering the “Hacks” episode “Bulletproof” as her 2024 Emmy Award submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actress. “Bulletproof” aired on May 30 and is the ninth episode and Season 3 finale of the Max series.

In this installment, Deborah (Jean Smart) offers Ava (Einbinder) the head writer job at her new late-night show, but she later tells Ava that the network is pressuring her to keep the current male writer on board. After learning from Winnie (Helen Hunt) that Deborah lied as she can hire her own staff, an enraged Ava confronts Deborah, who says she can’t take a risk on her because the show needs to be bulletproof. Later, Deborah walks into a production meeting to find Ava, thinking she has accepted the staff position, but Ava plays her trump card: She threatens to expose Deborah’s one-night stand with network chairman Bob Lipka (Tony Goldwyn) if she’s not named head writer. Deborah then introduces Ava as her head writer.

This is Einbinder’s third career nomination; all have been for “Hacks” in this category. She faces Carol Burnett (“Palm Royale”), Liza Colón-Zayas (“The Bear”), Janelle James (“Abbott Elementary”), Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”) and Meryl Streep (“Only Murders in the Building”).

“Hacks” earned 16 nominations this year, bringing its three-season total to 48. It has won six Emmys over its first two seasons.
