CNN 'Race & Equality' reporter claims entire team disbanded 91 days before election

Race & Equity Reporter Chandelis Duster said Monday that CNN laid her off and disbanded her entire team just 91 days before Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are set to face off in the 2024 election.

Duster broke the news on the social media platform X on Monday.

"My position as a Race & Equality Reporter is being cut among 100 other positions across CNN amid restructuring and broader cuts by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery," Duster wrote. "I was also informed that my team was disbanded. My last day will be this Friday."

The reporter said CNN's decision was "unfortunate, emotionally, mentally and spiritually."

"I am incredibly grateful for the experiences I have had at CNN and to be part of this network. I am proud of the many stories I was able to tell, including those with journalists who have become lifelong friends and like my family," she added.

The CNN shakeup comes just 91 days before the 2024 presidential election. It was unclear how CNN's decision to devote fewer resources to "Race & Equality" would impact reporting on a presidential race with the first Black woman nominee.
