My fiance is the reason I watched £160,000 lottery jackpot slip through my fingers – before I got my own back

A LOTTERY winner has told how he nearly lost out on a whopping £160,000 – all thanks to his fiance.

Norwich veterinary nurse Jack Pye, 27, can now afford to have the wedding of his dreams after striking lucky in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

He was one of the ten ticket holders in the village to win the 160k jackpot, and is now grateful he didn’t listen to his fiance AJ Brown’s advice.

He said: “It will change our lives forever. We’re getting married next year and we’ve been saving every pound and penny. I’ve never had money in my life. I never expected this to be six figures.

“We’ll have the wedding of our dreams. We have already booked what we wanted, but we might add a few surprises for the guests.”

The couple looked thrilled as they held up the multi-thousand pound check.

Brown joked about how during his vows he’d have to tell Jack to ignore him in the future.”

He said: “I think I told him to stop playing because we had so many things to pay. Don’t listen to me!”

The average cost of a wedding the UK is around £20k according to Hitched.

This means that there will certainly be some wiggle room in the budget for their guest surprises.

The pair weren’t the only ones jumping for joy in Norwich, with 1,159 neighbour’s sharing their postcode of NR8 6 sharing a slice of the £3.2 million prize.

Only 10 however won the big £160k cheque.

Childhood friends Laura Allen and Sophie Baker both won at the same time.

The long-term neighbours grew up in the village together and are now able to also celebrate their win together as well.

Allen said: “Sophie got the phone call first and she was screaming down the phone at me. We’ve been really excited together.

“Our partners grew up in this village together, we go on holidays together and they’re godparents to my kids.”

How does the People's Postcode Lottery work?

In the same area Grandma Anne Savory, 78, was also in disbelief when she heard the news.

Savory was planning on getting a new roof for her bungalow and said £1,000 would have been unbelievable enough.

She is thrilled to now have enough to help out her family as well.
